Charlotte's charity needs views of Wirral youngsters

A CHARITY set up in memory of a Wirral teenager will be calling on youngsters to give their views on what services they would like.

Charlotte's Brightside CLC, which was launched to remember 19-year-old car crash victim Charlotte Churchill, is planning a series of "taster sessions" this summer.

The youngster's mum, Angie, wants to finalise details on the charity's premises as soon as possible so plans can be put in motion.

And she is hoping that Brightside's loyal supporters will continue to back forthcoming events.

Angie, from Wallasey, said: "We are just waiting for things to be confirmed on a building and then we can get in there to begin our DIY duties!

"We have arranged a couple of taster sessions in August so young people can come along and see what they think. We will have graffiti artists down there and BMX bikes for people to try out.

"Parents can also come to ask any questions they might have and we want to know what the young people want out of us because it is all about them."

Nursery nurse Charlotte was killed in April 2011 when the car in which she was a passenger hit a tree.

But her death inspired her family and friends to launch a massive fundraising drive to launch Brightside, which is named after her favourite song by The Killers.

More than £20,000 has so far been raised and Angie is already planning the next round of charity events, including a special joint birthday celebration for Charlotte and 21-year-old Robbie Crofts who drowned in the River Mersey last year.

Angie added: "We keep getting donations from people who have raised money for us – it is so touching to know that people have taken the cause so close to their hearts.

"The plans for Charlotte Fest are already in full swing and we will be holding a birthday ball to celebrate Charlotte's 21st and Robbie's birthday. They were friends with each other so myself and Robbie's mum thought it would be a good way to celebrate both their lives."

Brightside taster sessions will take place at Mosslands School, Wallasey on August 17 from 6pm-9pm and Vale Park, Wallasey on August 18 from 12pm-5pm.

This year's Charlotte Fest, which will be held on September 1 in Vale Park, Wallasey, from 12-6pm, will feature performances from Ally Mac, Andy Stine and Tequila.

The birthday ball will take place at Oldershaw Rugby Club on November 3.
