DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a quantity of alcohol was stolen from a delivery driver in Birkenhead early this morning.

A woman had been delivering from a nearby takeaway to a property on James Street at around 1.30am when two men smashed the passenger window of the car she was driving and stole a crate of Carlsberg lager.

The woman was driving a black Smart car. She was not injured during the incident but was left shaken.

Officers are carrying out house-to-house enquiries and forensic examination has been conducted.

Officers are appealing to anyone with any information in connection with the incident, or who may have seen or heard anything around this time in the area, to call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2265. Alternatively, people can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

A better respose than I got, the desk officer basically said it was my own fault for leaving things on view.

I think it's a better response than the vast majority of people have received on the Wirral who have had far more serious and unusual thefts committed.
