Hundreds turn out to see Katie Price during Wirral visit

HUNDREDS of people lined the streets in Birkenhead to meet tabloid favourite Katie Price this weekend.

The former glamour model paid a visit to Wirral to sign copies of her latest novel In The Name Of Love at WH Smith, The Grange and Pyramids Shopping Centre, on Sunday.

And despite turning up more than an hour late, her loyal fans waited patiently to meet their idol, clutching their copies of the book.

With her own reality TV series, autobiographies, perfume range and clothing line, there would be few households who didn’t know who the 34-year-old businesswoman was.

Her eighth literary offering, the book centres around sports presenter Charlie who falls for Spanish horse rider Felipe but their romance faces more than a few hurdles to survive.

And mum-of-three Katie said it was “spooky” how her fictitious characters often bear similarities to her own life.

Speaking before the signing, she told the Globe: “This book is probably one of my favourites because it is very horsey and of course I love anything equestrian-related. "It is weird though, because I will do a book and then things will come true in my own life, for example, Charlie’s love interest is Spanish and obviously I am with Leo now (Leandro Penna, Katie’s Argentinian boyfriend.) "I was also in a big accident last year with a horse and the main character suffers one so there are definitely similarities but it's not planned that way – it just happens."

While Katie, who split from ex-husband Peter Andre in 2009, is heavily involved with the novels, she also works with writer Rebecca Farnworth on all her fictional titles.

And she said the books’ success is down to her straight talking and to-the-point attitude.

She said: “They’re quite easy reading and I think my fans love them so much because the description is so detailed, such as what clothes or nail varnish the characters are wearing – people can relate to it then.”

Despite only being in her thirties, Katie has released a total of four tell-all autobiographies, each one acting as diary entries from her life at the time.

But she said the next instalment, which will be out later this year, will be a “must-read” - although she remained tight-lipped on who would be the centre of the revelations.

Katie added: “With my last book, You Only Live Once, I couldn’t say everything I wanted to say because I was gagged by certain people. "But this time I won’t be holding anything back. That will definitely be the one to read.”

In the queue waiting to have their copies signed were Lily Jones, 15, from Birkenhead and her grandma, June Mottram.

Lily said: “I am a huge Katie Price fan and I really do admire what she does. It has been a great atmosphere here today and it has all been worth the wait.”

Katie added: "This is my first trip to Wirral and I have had an amazing and very warm welcome from my fans in Birkenhead.

"Hopefully it won't be too long before I can come back to the town again because a lot of people have taken the time to come and visit me today and I really appreciate it.”
