  • "I see the Hamper Selling Spiv is still unwilling to put his hand in his pocket to pay decent wages.

I sincerely hope he doesn't get his hands on any money from the sale of the Memorial Playing Fields in Ingleborough Road."

Rovers captain signs deal with Preston North End Rovers captain signs deal with Preston North End

TRANMERE Rovers captain John Welsh has signed a two-year deal with Preston North End FC.

The central-midfielder, who was out of contract at Prenton Park, turned down a new contract with the club to move to North End.

Welsh, 28, has played 130 games for Rovers and will officially begin his new deal from July 1.

Rovers manager Ronnie Moore said: “Unfortunately we’ve lost John Welsh. We put an offer in that we thought was a good offer for him but obviously he has got a better offer and gone to Preston.

"I wish him all the best there. He has been a great servant and since I’ve come in he’s been fantastic.

"So it leaves us a bit bare in that midfield area.

We’re looking for two strikers, two wide men and two or three midfield players.

"There’s a lot of time to go and a lot of hard work to be done but I’m sure we’ll find the right players.”
