A Wirral dad underwent surgery for serious facial injuries after he was attacked at his front door.
Police believe the incident, which happened on Thursday night at around 9.40pm in Cliff Road, Wallasey, was a case of “mistaken identity.”
The 52-year-old victim had answered his door to be confronted by a man who hit him in the face with an “unknown object.”
The man, who is in his 20s and around 5ft 8ins tall, then fled the scene on foot leaving the victim with a fractured cheek and jaw.
He was taken by ambulance to Arrowe Park Hospital where he underwent surgery at the weekend.
Police say the motive for the attack is unknown and detectives are investigating the possibility of a mistaken identity.
The man was wearing dark-coloured clothing and a black bobble hat that had a small metal square at the front. He ran off down Cliff Road towards Station Road.
