Firefighters rescued five teenagers who became stuck in a disused water tower.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called at 11.03am to Tower Road near the Four Bridges area in Wallasey.

It is understood the teenegers' makeshift ladder had collapsed after they had climbed onto a higher level of the disused pumping tower more than 20 metres above the ground.

Firefighters used a short extension ladder to help rescue the youths from the upper levels of the building. The height of the pumping tower is around 30 to 40 metres.

Two of the teenagers were 15-year-old males and three were 16-years-old males. All were uninjured.

Firefighters were finished at the scene by 12.09pm today.

A fire engine from Wallasey Community Fire Station attended the call-out.
