STUDENTS from Bebington High Sports College have been out and about in their community as part of a campaign to encourage safe driving over Christmas.

The group handed out leaflets and spoke to drivers at three locations in the area as part of the 'Caring within the Community' scheme.

The leaflets, designed by students themselves, were distributed to the general public with an emphasis on patience and careful driving.

The teenagers also had the chance to use a portable speed indication device to check how fast vehicles were travelling along the road during a busy period.

They were joined by police officers from Wirral Safer Schools Partnership.

A spokesman for the school told the Globe: "This is one of the creative ways Bebington students are trying to tackle speeding within their community.

"Actively encouraging drivers, especially in the lead up to the Christmas period, that they should slow down and not drink and drive will hopefully resonate throughout all our community."
