NEW Brighton's latest addition to its multi-million pound regeneration project was officially launched last week.
The Light Cinema was opened by Wirral's mayor Moira McLaughlin as part of a glitzy evening of champagne, food and the first screening of Hollywood movie 'New Year's Eve.'
The event, which was held last Wednesday, was in aid of the RNLI and volunteers from New Brighton lifeboat station were on hand to greet guests on the orange carpet as they arrived.
Other guests included Tranmere Rovers chairman Peter Johnson, team captain John Welsh and players Enoch Showunmi and Andy Robinson.
The 1200-seater cinema, which cost £5.5m, features eight screens and created more than 25 jobs.
And the chain's owners Keith Pullinger and John Sullivan said they were looking forward to bringing The Light to the local community.
Mr Pullinger said: "We are thrilled with the New Brighton cinema. It is our pride and joy. The opening is the culmination of a great team effort by the wonderful people who work here.
"Hosting the UK premiere of such a big budget film must be a first for New Brighton, but hopefully not the last."
It is hoped that as well as showcasing blockbuster films, The Light will also help develop the talents of young film-makers through film festivals.
Mr Sullivan added: "Digital cinema is entering a new generation and we are right at the forefront of developments with unrivalled audio visual facilities.
"We want to create a unique cinema reaching out into our local community, tailored to their needs and wishes.
"It is our privilege to have dedicated the premiere opening to the RNLI.
"We are so impressed with the life-saving work the volunteers do here in the waters around Wirral."
