A GROUP of Wirral pupils are appealing for help to grow their own fresh produce as part of their learning.

Staff and children at Meadowside School, Upton are struggling to fund equipment for special lessons in how to grow fruit and vegetables.

The school, which caters for students aged 11-19 with complex learning difficulties, is trying to collect vouchers from Morrisons in a bid to buy more garden tools.

The Let’s Go tokens will allow pupils to purchase plant pots, garden spades and gloves.

And class teacher Jan Sayer is hoping Globe readers can lend a hand.

She said: “The children here absolutely love being taught how to grow their own food but we simply don’t have enough equipment. At the moment we only have a fork, a spade and some trowels. It would be great if people could give their spare Morrisons vouchers to us or even donate any unwanted gardening equipment.

“The lessons benefit the whole school but our post-16 students particularly enjoy them and they have been making food such as chutney out of their produce.”
