A WIRRAL man has died after he plunged from a building in the early hours of this morning.

The 19-year-old, who is believed to be from the West Kirby area, fell from the roof of an apartment at around 1am in Victoria Street, Liverpool.

The victim, who had been at a party with friends, was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital by ambulance for emergency treatment but died shortly after arrival.

His family have been notified and support is being provided for them by police.

Officers cordoned off the area around the junction of Victoria Street and Progress Lane, where the victim was found, for forensic examination.

The cordon has since been lifted but officers will carry out further work in the flat where the young man had been attending a party with friends.

Officers are in the process of speaking to everyone who was at the flat at the time of the fall but no arrests have been made.

Detective Inspector Paul Mann from St Anne Street CID, said: "We are in the process of collecting statements from everyone at the party with a view to handing our file to the Coroner.

"Although the investigation remains ongoing and further work needs to be done today, we believe he was one of several people who had climbed out of a window onto a ledge on the roof of the flat.

"Some people were having a cigarette and it is from this roof that he has fallen. What caused his fall is yet to be established and we are treating his death as unexplained.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this tragic time."
