A woman died this morning after being struck by a train near a railway crossing at Melrose Avenue in Hoylake.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “The woman, who has yet to be identified, was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital where she later died as a result of the injuries sustained."
Police are not treating the death as suspicious and will now assist in the compilation of a report for the coroner.
The train involved was the 5.51am West Kirby to Liverpool loop service.
More later.
