Police are appealing for witnesses following an incident in which a woman racially abused a member of staff at a restaurant in Liscard Village.

Officers say they are treating the incident as a hate crime.

They have issued a CCTV still of a man who they would like to speak to regarding the incident as they believe he could help them with their inquiries.

At about 10pm, on Saturday, March 5, a man and a woman walked in to 'Chutneys' restaurant and ordered drinks and a meal.

The couple ate their starters and before the main course arrived had a row.

The man walked out and the woman told one of the staff that they were leaving and she was only going to pay for the drinks.

The member of staff explained that the main meal was almost ready and that they would have to pay, he even offered to give it as a takeaway meal as long as it was paid for.

An argument ensued and the woman shouted racial abuse at the member of staff before leaving with her partner who had come back to see what was happening.

The couple left the restaurant without paying the bill for the food.

The woman is 5ft 2in, aged about 30, with a stocky build and shoulder length black hair. She was wearing a shiny silver dress and high heels.

The man is 6ft 2in, with a stocky build. He was wearing a black and green hooded top wich had bright white writing on the front and blue denim jeans.

Due to the racial verbal abuse this incident is being investigated as a hate crime and officers are appealing to anyone who has information to contact the Wirral Sigma team on 0151 777 2268.
