PUPILS at a Wirral school have welcomed Spring with a new addition to their on-site farm.

Woodchurch High School is now home to jet-black lamb, Hope, who was born on Saturday morning.

Heidi Moulton, who looks after the school's animals, was carrying out her usual weekend duties feeding the sheep and chickens when she noticed pregnant ewe Annabelle had given birth.

Weighing in at 6kg, Hope is settling into life at Woodchurch and is 'doing well,' according to Heidi.

Heidi, who teaches biology at the school, said: "I was doing my usual feeding and cleaning with my little girl on Saturday when it happened.

"I was beginning to wonder when Annabelle was going to deliver because she was showing no signs at all. We were packing up and just about to leave when I turned round and realised Annabelle had delivered her ewe lamb.

"She needed no assistance whatsoever and was born at 9.30am on the dot. It was very exciting and Annabelle is an excellent mother.

"Hope was standing almost straight away and was running around. We're expecting another lamb to come along any day, so watch this space."
