Police have launched a witness appeal after two men were assaulted by a gang armed with hammers in Tranmere this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Derby Road in Tranmere at about 3pm after reports two men, aged 31 and 41, had been attacked by a gang.
The men have been taken to hospital by ambulance where they are currently being treated.
The extent of their injuries is not known at this stage.
Although the motive for the incident is also unknown, officers believe it was a "targeted" attack.
The scene has been cordoned off for forensic examination, CCTV is being studied and house-to-house enquiries are underway.
A search of the area is also being conducted.
