Police have made four arrests following an air gun shooting in Wallasey on Sunday afternoon.

Officers were called to reports of people being injured on Poulton Road after being shot by air pistol pellets.

At the scene police found two people, aged 61 and 22, who had each suffered pellet wounds to their upper body.

Both men had been walking along the road when the incident occurred. They were taken to Arrowe Park Hospital for treatment and later discharged.

Poulton Road was closed as officers searched for the person responsible and a 17-year-old from Wallasey was arrested on suspicion of wounding last night.

He was taken to a police station on Merseyside to be interviewed by detectives. He is still being held in custody.

A 16-year-old from Liverpool has also been arrested on suspicion of two counts of wounding; a 17-year-old from Wallasey on suspcion of obstructing police; and an 18-year-old from Pensby also on suspicion of obstructing police.
