INSPECTORS have stripped a top Wirral school of their overall "outstanding" status.
Ofsted officials rated Calday Grange Grammar School for Boys as "good" with some outstanding features.
They said the school should communicate better with parents and ensure there are facilities available for feedback.
The report also highlighted that the West Kirby school needed to strengthen its governing body and restore the confidence of a "significant minority of parents."
However, inspectors praised students for their high level of "social, moral and cultural awareness which contributes to the school’s outstanding promotion of community cohesion".
The decision to downgrade the school from its high ranking comes just months after angry parents rallied to demand the board of governors to stand down.
They felt the school was in jeopardy after headteacher Andrew Hall was suspended last October and governors failed to keep parents in the loop about his return.
Mr Hall, who suffered heart failure earlier this year, had his suspension lifted in November but will have to face a disciplinary panel when his health improves.
But Ofsted said that "despite some turbulence surrounding events of the past year, relationships between adults and students are very positive."
Acting headteacher Michael Twist said: "It was helpful to have an external perspective on the school after the unrest of the last 14 months.
"Most importantly, there is recognition that the outcomes for pupils have remained outstanding.
"We feel that a good with outstanding features judgement accurately reflects the school at present, and we can now continue to move on with confidence to develop further in the light of this report."
