POLICE have confirmed that 87-year-old Frank Wood who was found collapsed in Prenton on Saturday, November 20, has died of his injuries.
Mr Wood was found collapsed in Wellington Road at its junction with Arnside Road at around 5.20pm, and it is still not clear how he came about his injuries. He died last night in hospital.
Detectives are keen to talk to anyone who may have been in the area at the time, particularly anyone who may have seen Mr Wood walk towards Silverdale Road from the Royal Air Force Club where he's been for a drink.
Detective Inspector Mark Tivendale, said: "It seems that Mr Wood was well-known in the area and I would appeal to anybody who had seen him that afternoon to come forward so we can establish his movements prior to being injured.
"Mr Wood regularly went for a drink and a game of snooker at the Royal Air Force Club, before making his short walk home.
"We remain open minded, as to the cause of his injuries. Any information the public can offer would be greatly appreciated."
A Home Office post mortem will be carried out tomorrow to establish a cause of death.
Anyone who has any information about this incident is asked to call 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
