WIRRAL author and modelmaker Daisy Dawes has been chosen by Waterstone's in Liverpool to be their first resident children's author.

Daisy and the team at the store in Bold Street will be holding monthly 'Crafternoons' - workshops and events for children based on their favourite books, including Daisy's debut book Get Ahead Fred.

She will be sharing her model making and craft skills with youngsters who visit the Bold Street book shop throughout the year.

The next session will be held on Saturday, September 25 from 1pm-3pm.

On her new role as resident author, The New Brighton-based artist and sculptor told the Globe: "It was a real surprise to be asked, but it's going to be fun and I’m looking forward to it."

Outside the world of books, Daisy has worked as a model maker for feature film Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, children's TV series Pingu and Aardman's Rex the Runt.

Get Ahead Fred tells the story of Fred, the man about town with a hat for every occasion. He’s extremely proud of his hat collection, but when the queen comes to visit, his hobby lands him in hot water!

Daisy said: "I'm working on another book which will be out next year. I can't say too much about it, but it will be along the same lines as Get Ahead Fred. I'm really looking forward to it."

Jennifer Dobson, senior bookseller at Waterstone's said: "Having Daisy here as our first resident children's author is fantastic.
