POLICE have launched a fresh appeal for witnesses after a serious assault of a man in Wallasey on Sunday, July 25.

At about 2am the 22-year-old was walking home along Rice Lane with his girlfriend after a night out when they were approached by two men.

They threatened the man and attacked him, and then left on foot towards Trafalgar Road.

Officers believe it was a targeted attack, although the motive is still unknown.

The victim has suffered serious injuries, including a bleed on the brain and is currently suffering loss of feeling in his legs. His mobility has been dramatically reduced.

He remains in hospital and his condition is currently being monitored.

The first offender is white and was wearing grey jogging trousers and was bare-chested.

The second offender is also white, 5ft 6 ins tall of slim build. He was wearing dark coloured clothing with a hooded top.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident. He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Lyndsey Harper, said: "This was an extremely nasty, unprovoked assault on a man who had simply been enjoying a night out.

Due to the serious nature of the victim's injuries detectives are keen to trace any potential witnesses.

"We are determined to catch the men responsible. I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw this assault take place or the offenders to come forward and help our investigation. Community information is vital when investigating reports of this type."
