Hot weather sparks Wirral home security warning

Wirral people are being urged to step up security measures at their homes during the hot weather.

Merseyside Police are advising homeowners how to reduce the risk of falling victim to burglaries during the summer months.

They are telling people to make sure that their windows and doors are locked at all times even when they are at home.

Homeowners are also being warned not to leave keys in the back of the door lock or on hooks where they can be seen from windows and doors.

Acting Chief Inspector Mick Blease said: “Burglars are opportunists and often take advantage of the good weather. I can't stress strongly enough to you to make sure you close and lock all windows and doors and use your alarm if you have one. I would also like to encourage neighbours of elderly residents to keep an eye on their neighbour’s property and if you see a window or door left open, please let them know.”

“If you are going away on holiday or just visiting friends or family for a few days, please remember to cancel the milk and papers and set a light timer switch.”
