A FAMILY business is set to appear on hit TV show Mary Queen of Shops later this month.

The Three Sisters fruit and veg store in Hoylake received a complete makeover from the programme's sharp-tongued host, Mary Portas.

Co-owner, Debra Ashford, took over the Market Street-based shop last year and wanted to give it a major overhaul straight away.

She said: "We applied to the show but thought nothing of it. The next thing we know, we get a phone call from the producers wanting to include us in the next series.

"It was a great experience having Mary and the TV crew here, and they have done some fantastic things for us.

"The whole shop has beeen done out and looks so much more appealing to customers now."

And Debra, who runs the business with her sister Anne Williams and employs other sister Jennifer Foster, is keen to encourage shoppers in the area to stand by their local businesses.

She added: "In the current economic climate, it is so important for people to use the independent business that we have.

"Too many people rely on big supermarket chains nowadays but us little shops will struggle if that carries on.

"At the moment, I think people just tend to drive through Hoylake due to a lack of parking facilities. So maybe that is a problem that needs to be addressed."

The Three Sisters will apear on Mary Queen of Shops on Monday, June 21, at 9pm on BBC2.
