A COUPLE have been cleared of ill treating or neglecting two baby boys at Leasowe.

Wirral magistrates found a man aged 32 and a 21-year-old woman who had been living at the Leasowe address not guilty on two charges of assaulting, ill treating, neglecting, abandoning or exposing the two babies aged one and two in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health last May.

The two, now staying in Liverpool, cannot be named for legal reasons.

One of the babies was allegedly left in a parked car and the case was highly publicised at the time.

Appearing for the accused, Laura Flynn and Martin Green maintained that the babies were well nourished, bright and alert, although they were a little unkempt and dirty.

The court was told the two accused had been preparing for a car boot sale the next day and this was the reason the house 'was a bit of a tip' at the time.

They put one baby in the car while they were sorting things out.

The two were found guilty of dishonest use of electricity at the address and were conditionally discharged for 12 months.
