GARY Murphy and his band will pay tribute to '80s rock band Dire Straits at Pacific Road Arts Centre in Woodside next month.
The April 17 show follows a performance during last year’s Mathew Street Festival in Liverpool, when Gary paid tribute to Dire Straits and Gary Moore.
Looking forward to the Pacific Road concert, Moreton-based Gary said: "Dire Straits' frontman Mark Knopfler was hugely influential on me when I started performing and I have always enjoyed his style of guitar playing.
"After the success we had at the Mathew Street festival I didn't realise just how many people still love Dire Straits and their music, so we decided to perform a full set of their hits, under the name of Dire States, at Pacific Road."
Before the Dire Straits tribute the band will also perform a Squeeze tribute, fronted by local singer Alan Armstrong, completing what promises to be an exciting tribute evening for two of biggest bands of the 70s and 80s.
Gary’s band features Robbie Shirley on bass and vocals, Denny Bolton on keyboards and acoustic guitar, Ged Ryan on drums and percussion, and Paul Brooks on piano and synthesizer.
Tickets are from The Floral Pavilion Box Office on 0151 666 0000 or www.pacificroad.co.uk. More details are from www.myspace.com/garymurphyband.
