Volunteers needed for this year's Wirral Egg Run

AS Wirral's famous Egg Run draws nearer, its organisers are appealing for more volunteers to act as stewards on the dsy.

The annual event, which takes place on Sunday March 28, is set to be the biggest yet with more than 10,000 riders expected to take part.

Egg Run committee member, Graham Heron, is keen to get get more people on board to help out to ensure the day runs as smoothly as possible.

He told the Globe: "We have got stewards and marshals already signed up but we would rather be "too safe" than not safe enough on the day.

"We want everyone to be able to enjoy themselves without worrying about safety issues."

This year organisers have teamed up with Ridesafe Backsafe, a scheme which places emphasis on drivers to see motorcyclists as other road users and not a helmet and bike in the distance.

The group's spokesman, Emma Kelly, said: "This will be a great day out for motorcyclists, a huge spectacle and of real benefit to many local children, but ensuring everyone's safety is paramount.

"As well as asking all participants to heed the guidance of the event marshalls, we must highlight the need for other road users to 'Think Bike', be considerate and leave plenty of room for bikes en route."

Also taking part again to bring some comedy will be Laurel and Hardy impersonators, Liscard-based Gary Slade and Rob Graham.

Last year's event raised over #20,000 for sick children at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals, but organisers are hoping they can top that figure for 2010.

Egg Run committee member Graham Heron added: "We want to make 2010 the best year yet. It's a great day out for all the family to come down and cheer on the bikes."
