AFTER reaching the semi finals on his last visit to the Sunday Flyers in Arrowe Park West Kirby Victoria's Bill Atkinson finally managed to achieve his first win for quite some time.

He had a good win against John Hignett Snr in the quarter final and then got the better of Anthony O'Neill in the semi.

In the final he played Gladstone's Nigel Hughes who had played very well in his way to the final: After a tremendous game with Mallie Andrews, Hughes had proved to be too good for Chris Watterson and he then had an excellent win against the always competitive John Hignett Jnr.

In the final Atkinson was always in the lead and, in winning 21-11, he went someway to avenging the massive defeat he had suffered when these two players last met.

Results: Quarter Finals: N. Hughes 21, C. Watterson 07; J. Hignett Jnr 21, F, Arnell 18; A. O’Neill 21, P. Roberts 11; W. Atkinson 21, J. Hignett Snr 09. Semi Finals: Hughes 21, Hignett 16; Atkinson 21, O’Neill 17; Final: Atkinson 21, Hughes 11.

On Saturday the two brothers Robbie and Jamie Fitzpatrick travelled to Yorkshire to play in a tournament at Spen Victoria.

They showed, once again, the high standard of bowls on the Wirral by dominating the opposition and both reached the final.

On this occasion the winner of the tournament was Robbie who defeated his younger brother 21-07 but both are to be congratulated on doing so well.
