Date set to review controversial 'Sunset Over Thor's Rock' festival weekend

A DATE has been set for magistrates to review a council decision granting permission for a controversial Wirral music festival.

The "Sunset Over Thor's Rock" event was given the the go-ahead by Wirral Council in December last year.

But concerns were raised by local residents who asked for the decision to be reviewed.

They claim the three-day event, which is scheduled for May Bank Holiday weekend, would generate major traffic problems and nuisance behaviour.

More than 120 householders wrote to the local authority expressing their concern and were backed by ward councillors.

Licensing magistrates will hold their review on Thursday, April 15, and Friday, April 16.

The council's own licensing committee gave its permission to sell alcohol and "late night refreshments" for the concert - which the organisers' website says will be "featuring international and local bands, live acts and superstar producers/DJs."

Organisers Gerard White and Andrew Carr agreed to comply with a long list of conditions to ensure local wildlife would not be disturbed.

They promised that all music would be restricted within four marquees on the festival site at White's Farm, Station Road, Thurstaston.

The event received support from some residents and local businesses as well as Wirral Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

This is the most stupid location for a 'rock concert'. Access is extremely limited and whilst I am not a local resident, fully appreciate the disruption the event will cause. Who is going to make money from this one? Don't let it happen.

Wouldn't the main field at Royden Park perhaps be a better alternative venue?

There are many many more suitable locations for this bit of madness.
The plans to site it at an international beauty spot, means even the local population will need to travel by road to get there, let alone the people who follow these events.
A small hand full of wealthy land owners are behind this venture not the general public.
Throw it out, or site it in a location that will reduce the need for road transport to congregate in a totally unsuitable location.

They are going to 'comply with a long list of conditions to ensure that the local wildlife is not disturbed...'
What conditions exactly? How do you ensure the wildlife isn't disturbed with what is surely going to be pretty loud music right on their doorstep? - Issue little ear protectors to all the birds, foxes, badgers etc...?

What a bunch of moaning minnies the previous commentators are. Hugo sounds a right NIMBY ..."there are plenty of more suitable locations". Whatever next Hugo 'Children should be seen but not hear' Some people need to get a life in MHO.
