Wirral’s Council's cabinet has agreed the next stage in a process to create a new academy in Birkenhead to open in September 2011 in existing buildings before consolidating onto the one site.
Cabinet ratified the "Expression of Interest" for the new academy to open on the Park High site.
The process will now move to the feasibility stage which includes the detailed planning and design of the building, the curriculum, leadership and management arrangements and staffing requirements.
The new academy would replace both Park High School and Rock Ferry High School.
Consultations on both schools closures, as well as on the new academy, will begin in the next few weeks.
The lead sponsor for the academy will be the University of Chester, with the University of Liverpool, Wirral Met, Birkenhead Sixth Form College and the Local Education Authority as co-sponsors.
