Wirral Council reschedules wheelie bin collections because of icy weather

Wirral Council reschedules wheelie bin collections because of icy weather Wirral Council reschedules wheelie bin collections because of icy weather

WHEELIE bin collections on Wirral are being rescheduled due to the icy weather - causing yet more havoc for householders.

In a statement, the council said it had "been forced to reschedule some rubbish collections after icy conditions have made it difficult to operate collection vehicles".

The statement added: "The borough’s refuse and recycling collections have been significantly affected by the current adverse weather conditions, meaning that some rounds for both green and grey bins will not be completed on Wednesday, December 23 and Thursday, December 24.

"If any residents are scheduled for a collection on either of these days, but do not have their bin emptied by 6pm on Christmas Eve, they are advised to take their bin back onto their premises and put it back out for collection Sunday, December 27 by 7am in the morning.

"There are no collections planned for Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

"Collection crews will be working flat out to resume normal collections and clear any back-log resulting from recent weather conditions."

If you're a household who normally has a bin emptied on a Friday, your next collection will take place on Sunday, December 27.

Ensure that your bin is placed out on the kerb edge or communal collection point by 7am.

These Christmas working arrangements have been detailed in your latest Waste and Recycling Calendar.

As regards extra waste, Biffa will take any additional side bags placed beside the green bins arising from late collections.

Make sure all extra rubbish is secured to prevent litter from escaping and that no sharp objects are placed inside the bags.

Side waste can not be taken alongside grey recycling bins, says the council.

This is because all recycling must be delivered loose to the sorting facility at Bidston.

As most extra waste generated at Christmas is recyclable, such as cardboard packaging and wrapping paper, recyclers may wish to store extra recyclable rubbish somewhere dry if your grey bin is full.

You may then top up your grey bin on future collect days in the New Year.

Alternatively, glass bottles and jars, tins and paper can be taken to recycling facilities across the borough.

You make it sound like there has been havoc, why not say something positive like.

"despite the hard work put in by the binmen, they have been unable to reach all houses due to the dangerous conditions"

Why does the Globe insist on putting a negative spin on everything? I have a HGV licience and wouldn't fancy taking a bin lorry down some of these streets in this weather.

Having read reports that some councils will not collect for up to a month after the christmas period - and will fine anyone whose bin lid will not close - we are lucky to have such a good service here on wirral.
...
Our bin lads are always happy to help anyone who needs it and work bloody hard - in all weathers. I am gald to see they will be taking the odd extra bin bag as well. Good on em, I say.

Well obeyed all the instructions and of course they never turned up today (Sunday).

Don't blame the collection lads, just the system that doesn't seem to allow for the X factor and I ain't talking television.

I was surprised to see my bin day changed to Sunday because of the holidays*(Christmas)
. But I was not surprised when they failed to show up as usual.

What an article. After reading this I went out and brought in my bin and put it out again on Saturday night for collection on Sunday. Alas it was not emptied. The writer of this article does not know what he/she is talking about and should not hold a position in the council.
What do we do next? Take them in on Sunday night? Put them out when?
If they don’t empty them soon we will have more snow and another excuse not to grit side roads and the bin wagon cannot collect.
Will the author of the original article come on board to answer these questions? I don’t think so. But they will advise the globe with a load of RUBBISH this is recycled again.

Grey bin still not emptied and now I have 3 bin bags full of recycling waste in my kitchen. Thank god they are working flat out to clear the 2 day backlog and maybe my bin will get emptied on the forth day(late).Hang on 2 day backlog 4 days late whats going on? Has the wagon broken down again for the umpteenth year on the run? Or does flat out mean a different thing in the public sector ?

You put your green bin in, you put your grey bin out, in, out, you wheel them in and out. The weather`s caused this chaos coz the wagons slip and slide, thats what its all about.
Oh Wirral Borough Council, Oh Wirral Borough Council, Oh Wirral Borough Council, when will you get things right.

Practical Question: If and when the wagons to collect the bins do start operating. Can at least one of the operatives or supervisors, knock on some doors to alert the people and get the bins from the back to the front.
Many households have moved the various coloured bins in and out, afraid to leave them permanently on the pavement, as the pavements are dangerous enough during this weather.
Obviously there will be a considerable backlog to collect, so warning residents may need to take place on more than one occasion, plus some households will be empty as people will need to get to work, if and when the roads return to normal or near normal conditions.

It's a disgrace that the council can't cope in these weather conditions. In my view the Bin collection service has been in decline ever scince it's privatisation. When we had real council employees running the service they emptied your bin, took it back to your house and had no stupid jumped up attitude towards doing there job! As with most service providers they have jumped on the HSE & the nanny state band wagon to try and justify why they shouldn't do there job! Where I live the bin men don't seem to know how to drive the wagon because we have leflets pushed through our door stating that they wont collect if cars are on the road??? have they taken a driving test? We have to park our cars on the pavements because the driver is obviously unable to perform his role safely! They also like to park at the end of the road and take all the bins down to the end and leave thenm there. Why are they not returned to the house they were outside???? Is this not a part of our service??? And to top it all off they even expect a tip at Christmas!! Laugh out loud....In my view the bin service needs to grow up and put up. They need to do the job they are paid to do and shut up with their immature moaning and crying. If they don't like the job then leave and let someone do it who will provide the correct service. Maybe a Polish crew would be just the answer......

I have been playing the Hokey Cokey with my bins, the green one out, the green one in, the grey one out and so forth, I have lost touch with the colours and who is in or who is out.
I would love the opportunity to have one of our useless councilors, by the throat and shake them all about.
Knees bend arms bend rah,rah,rah.
I know its an old adage, but things were different in the old days.
