TWO people were taken to hospital with minor injuries following separate collisions near to the Kingsway tunnel in Wallasey this morning.

Parts of the motorway were closed following the collisions which involved six cars and occurred along the M53 approach road heading from the tunnel exit in the direction of Bidston Flyover, at around 7.40am.

Caused by ice on the road, the crashes led to long tailbacks. The road has since re-opened.

Dibbinsdale Road in Bromborough is currently closed because of ice between Allport Road and Poulton Road.

There is also queueing traffic following an accident on the A41 Rock Ferry By-Pass Northbound before the New Chester Road Cammell Laird roundabout heading towards Birkenhead.

Drivers travelling along Tower Road in Birkenhead are advised to do so slowly because of ice.

But despite the hazardous conditions, bus and rail services appear to be running normally.

A Merseytravel spokesman said: "There were a couple of cancellations on the trains earlier this morning, but this was the same for services across Merseyside.

"It's pretty much business as usual for train and bus services."
