Consultation with the community is to be held over a plan to move Thingwall's Stanley Special School to the site of Pensby Primary School.
The proposal would involve rebuilding the two schools to cater for 100 pupils with complex learning difficulties at Stanley Special School and 210 mainstream pupils at Pensby.
Consultation with children, parents, staff and the local community will take place from January 6 to gauge their views before any decision is made.
Under the proposal, the schools would be separate but have common areas and facilities which could also be available to the local community, including extended services, hydrotherapy, leisure pools, meeting spaces, indoor sports, gym and drama facilities.
The buildings would replace the Pensby Infant and Junior schools previously on the site but, the proposal makes clear that they would be built more sympathetically with their surroundings.
The traffic management system should also eliminate the need for on street parking and security would be improved under the proposals.
It is expected that the new Pensby Primary School building will be open in September 2011 and the Stanley School could be up and running the year after, if these proposals are approved.
Anyone wanting to have their say can do on line, in writing and at consultation meetings and drop in sessions.
A decision on the proposal will be made by the council’s cabinet.
