PUPILS from Ridgeway High School in Noctorum have produced and distributed food hampers as part of a community-inspired business project.
As part of their maths and information technology curriculum, Year 7 and 8 pupils were asked to consider the use and application of business plans, costings and IT to deliver a service to the community.
The project focused on the theme 'a time to give'.
Students came up with the idea of creating food hampers which could then be given to those local families in need of their support and also to the older members of the community.
The project started from a blank piece of paper and ended with 100 hampers being created.
Food was donated by staff and pupils, with the school donating funding for the purchase of the baskets and materials.
The project ended on Friday when the hampers were distributed to the local community by members of Wirral's social care team, the school's Family Support Worker, school nurse and Education Social Welfare Officer.
The school's community centre hosted its annual 'Age Concern' Christmas Party. Among the guests were Birkenhead MP Frank Field.
A school spokesman said: "This has been a very rewarding activity for our Year 8 pupils, not only from an academic perspective but also from a wider social and economic perspective.
"Pupils were able to add value to the lives of those a little less fortunate than themselves and found the experience incredibly rewarding."
