Police have joined forces with post offices across Wirral to launch a Safer Post Office initiative.

The aim is to prevent crime and create safer neighbourhoods during the busy run up to Christmas and New Year.

Neighbourhood teams have adopted post offices across Wirral and each post office branch will be "twinned" with its local police officer.

Designated officers will make regular visits to their post office branch, provide high visibility patrols in the area and will be available to offer crime prevention advice.

Officers will also be working closely with sub postmasters to offer advice and guidance on security issues in order to deter criminals.

Detective Constable Chris O’Connor said: “The festive period is one of the busiest times of the year for post offices and they are used by everyone in our communities, from pensioners and families to local businesses.
