North West water giant United Utilities this morning hailed a "sound set of results in a challenging economic climate" as it posted an increase in both turnover and profit.
The company, headquartered in Warrington, reported an underlying profit before tax of £268.2m for the six months to September 30, up from £252.6m a year earlier.
Its turnover increased £6m to £1.21bn for the period.
Chief executive Philip Green said the group would carefully consider regulator Ofwat's final decision on price levels for the next five years before responding.
Ofwat is due to publish its price review, which will determine prices for the next five years, tomorrow.
