Christmas shoppers invited to buy a place in next year's Race For Life

CANCER Research UK is giving Wirral shoppers the chance to buy the women in their lives a place in next year's Race for Life.

For the first time, pre-paid places are available online. They cover entry fee to next year's event in Birkenhead Park and come with a voucher code.

Recipients will get advance notice so they can go online and secure their place in the event as soon as the Race for Life website goes live on January 11.

The event is the UK's largest women only fundraiser. Participants can either walk, jog or run five kilometres to raise money to help beat cancer.

In July, more than 5165 women took part in the Birkenhead Park event, raising £205,000 for life-saving research into the disease.

Helen Wright, organiser of the Wirral event said: "Race for Life's new online pre-paid places offer people in Wirral the ideal solution to the annual gift dilemma of what to buy their mum, sister, daughter, niece or best friend for Christmas.

"The feel-good factor that comes from preparing to walk, jog or run the 5k, and then sharing in the spirit of sisterhood and pride on the day, will last far longer than turkey and tinsel.

"Race for Life in Wirral has a fantastic atmosphere with local women of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness abilities coming together to make a positive difference to the lives of people touched by cancer.

"They motivate and inspire each other to complete the 5k, with many simply walking round, chatting and having fun."

This year the charity is encouraging 1,000 women to take part in a 10k race around Birkenhead Park.

Those taking part will have the option to take part in the 10k course in the afternoon, without having to pay an additional entry fee.

"Those who take part in Race for Life often wonder if they could tackle a longer distance.

"This year we are giving women in the Wirral a great 'buy-one-get-one-free' offer because they can enter Race for Life and then choose the 10k option instead of 5k.

"Women who choose to take part in Race 10k can walk, jog or run. But by doubling their distance, they will also be doubling their fun and sense of personal achievement on the day."
