Wirral teenagers have the ‘LRX Factor’ after winning a business talent competition at Jaguar Land Rover.
A team from Upton Hall School, Upton, came first in the Jaguar Make It Enterprising Challenge - winning a thrilling Land Rover 4x4 off-road driving experience.
Calday Grange Grammar School, West Kirby, won second place and team members will be treated to a tour of the award winning Jaguar Land Rover factory.
They were competing against eight other Merseyside schools to create, market and sell their own customised versions of a future Land Rover model, based on the LRX Concept.
Land Rover recently announced that a production version of the LRX Concept, known as a new Small Range Rover, will be launched in 2011 and will be manufactured at Halewood Operations.
The event was part of The Manufacturing Institute’s "Make It in Manufacturing" campaign to attract talented young people into industry.
Each team set up a mini-manufacturing company for the day and selected job roles – from managing director to operations managers – through to finance, sales and marketing managers.
They developed, designed and costed their ideas for fuel efficient, lightweight new Range Rovers, created marketing and sales campaigns, and then pitched to a panel of business investment ‘dragons’ from Jaguar Land Rover.
Said Nicola Eagleton-Crowther, campaign manager: “It was a very lively, energetic and creative environment.
"The young people really got to grips with the brief and were full of fantastic ideas. They came up with some brilliant designs and marketing campaigns and we were delighted by their enthusiasm and performance."
