BEBINGTON Dramatic Society presents Woody Allen's romantic comedy Play It Again, Sam at the Gladstone Theatre in Port Sunlight from November 12-14.
The play is about Allan Felix, who writes for a film magazine and whose life is dominated by the silver screen.
His wife Nancy has left him and unable to deal with this emotional turmoil, he seeks solace in the movies he loves, with screen legend Humphrey Bogart dropping by his apartment, in his imagination, to give advice on dealing with the ladies.
Helping Allan meet new women are his good friends Dick and Linda Christie.
They fix him up with a succession of dates, all of which end disastrously because of Allan's nervousness and insecurity.
Finally, Allan realizes that he has been spending more time with Linda than anyone else and he is becoming attracted to her - she's the only woman he truly feels comfortable around.
The production pays homage to classic Hollywood films Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon on the way.
Performances start at 7.30pm. Tickets are from the box office on 643 8757 or gladstonetheatre.org.uk
A charity performance will be staged on Wednesday November 11 in aid of the Handicapped Children's Pilgrimage Trust.
The society's season continues with John Mortimer's play A Voyage Round My Father from February 24-27.
