TRANMERE Rovers players have presented the Royal British Legion with a cheque for £1316.53 for the Poppy Appeal.
The money was raised by the Territorial Army and RBL Birkenhead Branch during Rovers' game against Brighton & Hove Albion at Prenton Park on October 17.
Julie Dove, Poppy Appeal coordinator for Cheshire and Wirral said: "This is a great start for the Poppy Appeal.
"The Tranmere Rovers fans are notoriously generous and always offer their unequivocal support of the Poppy Appeal to support our troops who are fighting now in Afghanistan.
"They will need our support for many years to come and we can only offer our broad range of services to them if the Poppy Appeal remains as strong and successful as ever.
To have such a terrific club to kick off our Appeal in Birkenhead is a great asset."
Mick Horton, the club's chief executive, said: "This is a record collection at Prenton Park and we are delighted that Tranmere fans have given so generously to support the Poppy Appeal."
