THE headteacher at prestigious Calday Grange Grammar School has been suspended from work.
Andrew Hall was temporarily removed from his job of seven years after a meeting of the school's board of governors late last week.
Pupils took letters home to their parents yesterday informing them of the surprise development.
In a statement, the school said: "The headteacher at Calday Grange has been suspended.
"The matters under investigation are not of a financial or child protection nature.
"Staff and governors will continue to work together to ensure the effective running of the school."
The Globe understands the suspension follows a number of disagreements between the headteacher and the governors.
Deputy head Mike Skelly will take temporary charge of the school, which will celebrate its 375th anniverary in 2011.
