A WIRRAL motorcyclist has today admitted causing the death of an elderly pedestrian in Kirkdale.

Stephen McTigue from Wallasey pleaded guilty to having caused the death of 72-year-old Mary Wilson by riding a Yamaha RS 600 cc motorcycle carelessly.

The victim was struck as she crossed Stanley Road, Kirkdale, on the morning of December 6 and was declared dead at hospital.

Tom Watson, defending, said that 41-year-old McTigue admits he had been travelling too fast. The lowest possible speed was 39 mph and the highest was 48 mph, he said.

There had been two vehicles in front of him obstructing his view of the victim and if he had been travelling slower there would have been more time to see her and take evasive action, said Mr Watson.

McTigue, of Leominster Road, Wallasey, was further remanded on bail until August 21.

Judge Henry Globe, QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, warned McTigue that he had admitted an extremely serious offence and granting him bail was no indication of what sentence he would receive.
