Cheshire Garden scoops top awards at RHS show for second time

A SHOWPIECE Cheshire Garden has won the prestigious Best Show Garden and 'Gold' award at the RHS show at Tatton Park, for the second year running.

The International Show Garden: Ness Botanische, designed and constructed by award winning designer and TV presenter Chris Beardshaw and his team, will move on after the RHS show to become a permanent feature at Ness Botanic Gardens.

The inspiring showgarden is the result of a partnership between Visit Chester & Cheshire, Ness Botanic Gardens and the Northwest Regional Development Agency and is a key part of a showcase within the RHS show celebrating the legacy of all of Cheshire's Gardens of Distinction.

The showcase also included an exhibit by Bentley featuring a luxurious Continental GT and a stunning back-to-back, hermit-inspired garden created by Tatton Park Head Gardener Sam Youd, which also won a gold medal at the event.

Chris Beardshaw said: "This is a very exciting win for the team – not only because we have won a Gold Medal and the celebrated 'Best Show Garden' awards for the second year running, but also because this garden will have a far-reaching legacy after the RHS show when it becomes a permanent feature at Ness Gardens in 2010.

"It's a wonderful privilege to have the opportunity to create a garden not just at the Tatton Park RHS show, which is a beautiful show, but in a beautiful county, where the amount of really high quality gardens is really extraordinary."

He continued: "This success is great recognition of the hard work of everyone in the team but, more importantly, we are delighted that the Ness Botanische garden will now be enjoyed by many people for years to come and help to inspire even more interest in horticulture across the region.

These awards go on to further promote Cheshire's exemplary garden heritage and promote Cheshire's 29 Gardens of Distinction - including Ness Botanic Gardens – which came together last year to deliver the highly-successful 'Cheshire Year of Gardens 08' events programme.

General manager of Tatton Park, Brendan Flanagan comments: "To celebrate our 11th gold medal at the 11th anniversary of the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park is a fantastic achievement for all involved.

"This is a great result and only goes on to show the beauty and heritage of our Cheshire gardens of distinction."

The complete garden will be relocated to Ness Gardens after the RHS show and will be opened to the public at Ness in Spring 2010.
