STAFF and pupils from Pensby High School For Girls have taken one small step into the world of space travel.
A 40 foot long real-life rocket was brought to the playground by the Starchaser team, which builds and launches rockets into space from Britain’s shores.
It was the second visit by a real rocket to the school, which specialises in science studies, and part of a project arranged with Starchaser to bring the subject of space travel to life.
Staff were tempted to put on space age costumes and local primary schoolchildren were invited to join in the fun.
During the project, pupils were involved in a number of projects, including the building of mini rockets which were then launched 600 feet into the air from the school playing fields.
They also wrote imaginative poetry on the subject and designed badges for their rocket's logo.
Assistant headteacher Julie Gauntlett, who developed the relationship with Starchaser and helped organise the project, said: "It's been a great adventure for our girls who are very interested in science.
"The team always give us a really entertaining time and the girls are just fascinated by the sight of the rocket in their own playground.
"We hope they take away the bigger message too - girls belong in the world of science".
