Developer submits plans for second phase of £60m New Brighton regeneration

Neptune Developments has submitted a detailed planning application for the second phase of its £60m regeneration scheme at New Brighton.

The new phase will comprise of three groups of buildings for both leisure and retail space along with landscaping as well as improved highways and public transport links.

Neptune Developments director Rob Mason said: “We are delighted to have submitted this final detailed application and are looking forward to getting started on construction as soon as possible.

"The regeneration of New Brighton will not only provide 60,000sq ft of retail space, but will also create jobs and help to boost the local economy.”

Phase one of the New Brighton scheme saw a rebuilt 800-seater Floral Pavilion Theatre and conference centre, which has attracted performers and theatre goers from across the region.

The new main mixed-use building will include a six screen/1,000 seat digital cinema, a 66-bed budget hotel and a Morrison's supermarket as well as restaurants and bars.

The original operator for the budget hotel, Premier Inn, has withdrawn from the project.

However, a major budget hotel operator rival is in advanced talks with Neptune and the developer says an announcement is due shortly.

The western end of the site will see a new public lido and a car par providing 750 spaces to cater for the amount of visitors that the development is expected to encourage.

There will also be a two-storey sailing school with its own purpose-built pontoon.

With supermarket Morrisons and the Light Cinemas already signed up as tenants, the finished scheme is expected to boost the local economy by £21m per year.

This second phase of construction is expected to take approximately 18 months, with completion due in 2011.
