A WIRRAL off licence has been handed a suspension as part of a crackdown on unlawful alcohol sales to young people.
The Booze Buster Off Licence in Greasby Road, Greasby, failed two test purchases in February and July last year.
In January, neighbourhood officers from Upton Police Station confiscated 16 cans of alcohol from young people and traced the sale to the same premises.
The premises were called into review by Merseyside Police and supported by Wirral Trading Standards.
At a licensing sub committee meeting on Friday, the licence was suspended for seven days and several conditions were added to the licence. The premise has 21 days to appeal the decision.
Sgt Dave Peers from Wirral licensing section said: "There is no doubt that unlawful alcohol sales to young people can pose a serious health risk to the young persons themselves and greatly undermine the Licensing Objectives.
"It can also lead to increased anti-social behaviour. The licensing sub committee has sent a strong message that selling alcohol to those underage is not acceptable."
