THE GLOBE can today reveal the full list of lollipop school crossing patrols facing the axe by Wirral Council as part of budget cuts.
They have been determined under a mathematical formula that equates the number of children to the number of vehicles over a half hour period.
The formula is not a national requirement, but is considered to be a benchmark for good practice as laid out by RoSPA, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
The sites now facing the axe by the council have “failed to meet [the] criteria” made in that formula, according to a report to Tuesday night’s Streetscene and transportation overview and scrutiny committee, which rubber-stamped the scrapping of patrols in the following locations:
Bidston Village Road/Hoylake Road, in Bidston and St James ward
Chapelhill Road, in Leasowe and Moreton east ward
Corporation Road/Lincoln Street, in Bidston and St James ward
Eastham Rake/Glenburn Avenue, in Eastham ward
