COUNCIL leader Steve Foulkes held an urgent summit with the chair of Merseyside Police Author-ity over what he described as “scare stories” regarding potential police station closures on Wirral.

“I have received direct assur-ances that only stations in the direct catchment area of a potential new Command Centre would be affected - which in effect means that older, more antiquated buildings would be replaced with the latest high tech modern design, improving crime fighting capabilities,” he said.

“Even then enhanced neighbourhood facilities would still be available. That means that all other police stations on Wirral would be unaffected and stay in place as they are now.

“This is a far cry from the scaremongering stories that have been put forward by so-called responsible elected members who don’t take the time to get the facts right.

“The sad fact is that this type of negative and unfounded politics only distresses the public unnecessarily.”
