POLICE made an arrest after being called to reports a man had scaled the roof of a building.
Residents reported seeing a large police presence on Jackson Street on Tuesday evening.
And people took to social media to say officers had blocked the lights at the junction of Jackson Street and Sutton Road.
Numerous emergency vehicles were reportedly at the scene of the incident, which is believed to have centred on nearby buildings and a building site.
In a statement, Merseyside Police confirmed their call out initially centred on the concern for safety for a man who had climbed on to the scaffolding and roof of a building.
However, officers confirmed a man was later arrested on suspicion of numerous offences, including racially aggravated public order.
In a statement, a Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "It initially related to concern for a male on scaffolding/a roof.
"A 39 year-old man from the Bootle area was later detained on suspicion of racially aggravated public order, criminal damage and affray.
"He is currently in custody."
