A BAND of pupils from Upton Hall Convent School are planning a benefit concert to raise funds for the Jellybean Appeal.
So far, 10 groups from schools across Wirral have expressed an interest in the gig, which is planned for sometime in September and organised by Vicky Brown and her year 11 classmates.
Among them are young musicians from St Anselm's College in Claughton, Wirral Grammar School and St Mary's College in Wallasey.
It is the second concert the group has organised. In January, they staged a huge gig in the sports hall as part of their Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award which raised almost £800 for Oxfam and hope to raise £1000 for Jellybean.
Vicky told the Globe: "We chose to support Jellybean, because one of the concert's organisers knows someone who's heavily involved with the campaign. In January we had 10 local bands playing and they all thoroughly enjoyed it, and the night was an incredible success.
"This time we are set to make it even bigger and have already had a mass of bands showing interest in playing, showing it has become a great opportunity for bands on the Wirral to play, and the support we have had is wonderful.
"The music will be mainly rock and Indie. I won't be taking part myself, but one of the organisers will be performing a duet on the night.
"Last time we had about 350 in the audience, but we can fit about 400 people into the sports hall and I'm sure we can fill it next time.
"Many of the bands that hope to play in September are already becoming recognised in Wirral and Liverpool, these include the Shabangs, Babylon Pink, the Ora, The Extroverts and many many more.
"We will be raising funds for the appeal and are planning many themed surprises for the night! Our target this year is £1000, and we are confident that with support we can do it.
"This is such a great event, that recognises great upcoming bands, and also raises funds for an extremely good cause. We really enjoyed organising the first event, because we knew a lot of the bands who took part, so it was easy to get them involved and the actual night ran smoothly.
"Plus they brought a lot of people with them through ticket sales and helped us raise the amount we did."
