“HOW do you say thank you to the people who tried to save your daughter’s life?”

Those are the words of Violet-Grace Youens parents who not only held the second annual car wash at Eccleston Fire station in her memory at the weekend, but her dad Glenn also ran the Rainhill 10k in full firefighter kit to show his support to the people who tried to save his precious daughter.

Violet, four, died in March 2017 after she was struck by a speeding car on Prescot Road - firefighters from Eccleston Fire Station were the first on the scene who tried to save her life.

Despite their best efforts she died in her parents arms the next day - but the team and Youens family have maintained a strong bond since the tragedy, helping them to fundraise in her memory.

This weekend once again that relationship shone, as hundreds queued up at the fire station on Saturday to have their cars washed for Violet-Grace’s Gift - an organ donation and child bereavement charity set up in her name, as well as The Firefighters Charity.

The next day Violet’s dad Glenn, 30, took to the Rainhill streets with his friends in full fire gear to once again thank the courageous men and women who did all they could for his little girl.

He said: “We run the Rainhill 10k in fire gear to say thank you to everyone single person who works in our emergency services and the NHS.

"You all gave us the chance to say goodbye to Violet and read her one last story with a final kiss.

“We will be forever grateful.”
