NINE exciting plans that include changes to McDonald’s, a bank becoming a micro-pub, and new shops and takeaways in Wirral have been revealed.

They are all currently being dealt with by the local council, and, if approved, would mean noticeable changes for people visiting, living in, or working in the borough.

Here are the nine proposals:

1. Dozens of riverside flats for old hotel site

This plan would see a total of 28 apartments built over three floors on the vacant site of a former hotel in Wallasey.

The Seacombe Ferry Hotel, which previously looked out over the River Mersey is currently an empty site used as an unofficial car park after its demolition.

The design and access statement submitted alongside the application said the site was “in need of development” to enhance the character of the local area.

Plans were submitted to the council over the summer, and the apartments will be a mixture of one and two bedroom, with 27 car parking spaces.

The statement added: “The previous dwelling has been demolished and subject to approval the proposed new dwelling will be constructed with high quality materials and modern building techniques and they will be low maintenance, robust properties with energy-saving features.

“The appearance of the new dwelling will be clean and modern. It will look to hold its own with the river frontage and give the inhabitants a good quality of living.”

2. Important changes to McDonalds in Upton

The McDonald’s store in Upton has put in an application for works to be carried out on its branch.

It will see the restaurant refurbished to include an 11.3sq m extension, as well as reduced glazing and an additional drive-thru booth.

That will mean changes to the kerb line and one of the exits, with the takeaway booths also to be fitted with dark grey aluminium cladding. A large wall sign reading ‘Good Times’ will also be mounted.

3. New plans for iconic ex-Wallasey Chinese restaurant

Plans for this iconic former Chinese restaurant in Wallasey have been resubmitted after being refused earlier this year.

The proposals would see the unit on Wallasey Road in Liscard, which was previously one of the town’s most popular takeaways, Wallasey Chinese Restaurant, transformed into a shop with three apartments.

When plans were submitted earlier this year, they were refused due to the apartments not having enough view from the windows, resulting in “substandard living conditions”, but the fresh proposals are set to have a “more practical layout”.

The restaurant closed in 2011 and the building, which sits at the crossroads between Torrington Road and Belvidere, has been empty ever since.

4. Big extension for one of UK’s top sixth form colleges

Plans for an extension that will add an entire new teaching block and outside recreational space have been approved by the council for one of the country’s top colleges.

The new block will link to an existing corner of Birkenhead Sixth Form College, and contain nine new classrooms as well as storage, staff spaces and a social area for students.

Rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted and awarded Sixth Form College of the Year at the TES Awards in February, the planning statement said it was now seen as a “must go to” by students and parents. It’s now subject to “major oversubscribing” to nearly all of its courses.

A planning statement said: “The college needs more teaching space to accommodate the existing number of students and to accommodate additional increasing need.

“The college has also been in dialogue with local councillors to open up

the site. These new facilities are in line with the discussions held with the

councillors and will meet the college’s current needs spatially.”

5. Former bank to become a micro-pub

A former bank on Arrowe Park Road could become a micro-pub, if plans submitted to the council last week are approved.

The former Lloyds branch, which was most recently used as a mobile phone accessory shop, would become a small bar on the ground floor, with a kitchen area and storage on the first.

The owners are applying for permission to open between 11am until 11pm, serving beers, ales and spirits to the public, changing its current use from a retail unit.

The identity of who will run the pub is not yet clear, but the applicant was contacted for comment.

6. New music hall in Heswall

Plans have been submitted to change a building in Heswall from a nursery into a music hall, as well as replacing the current metal clad roofing with traditional slate covering.

According to the planning statement attached to the application, the existing building, erected in the early 1900s, has been vacant “for some years”, but is in “good working order”.

The plans are believed to have been submitted by renowned Wirral-based musician Steve Parry, and the hall on Poll Hill Road will be for his private use.

The planning statement added: “Visiting musicians working alongside the owner will visit on occasions.

“The hall will be laid out with a mixing desk towards the rear with musical instruments arranged for acoustic purposes. The hall will receive acoustic

insulation to reduce any sound pollution and also to assist with the internal acoustic quality of the hall.”

7. Flats plan for Grade II-listed former stable block

This Grade II-listed building close to Hamilton Square could soon be transformed into flats.

The block on Gertrude Street, Birkenhead, which was once stables and carriage houses before more recently being used as offices, is hoped to become four new homes.

A design and access statement attached to the planning documents, which were submitted last month, said: “The owner of the property has struggled to find commercial tenants over recent years and has progressively lost all tenants.

“The building is currently vacant and the owner wishes to convert it to four flats.”

8. Pay day loan shop to be transformed into takeaway

Plans are in place to turn this pay day loan shop on Wallasey Road in the middle of Liscard into a takeaway.

Previously a Cash Generator store, it is not known which business will occupy the unit, but its owners have submitted the proposals to council ahead of finding a tenant.

The unit is close to a number of fast food shops on the road already, including Subway, KFC and Pizza Hut.

9. Tool hire firm coming to Bromborough

A brand new tool hire firm is coming to Bromborough, if plans submitted earlier this month are approved.

It would mean power tools and repair service One Stop Hire would move into Unit 6, Brunel Road in Croft Retail Park, with the shop, which currently has 12 stores across the UK, to open six days a week.

The change of use application made by Shades of Dawn Clothing Ltd could also see the building become a research and development centre, or storage and distribution firm, should the lease with One Stop Hire not proceed.
