VISITORS are being urged to check before they travel ahead of the Giants Spectacular.

Thousands of people are expected to descend on Merseyside for Liverpool's Dream from 4 to 7 October and transport leaders are warning that this will put significant demand on rail and bus services during the four days.

Many major road routes will also be closed.

Merseytravel’s director for Integrated Transport Mick Noone said: “Demand on transport services will be high as this will be a very busy weekend for the City Region as we welcome back the Giants.

“At the same time, to facilitate the event we will see a number of diversions and disruptions to our road network.

"To enjoy the event to the fullest and avoid disappointment we strongly urge people need to check information and plan their journeys, don’t leave it until the last minute.”

On all three days, trains will not stop at all stations to allow for additional and more frequent services, James Street and Lime Street lower level (underground) will be closed to aid crowd control and movement, Wirral line services will start and end at Liverpool Central station and will not be stopping at Moorfields and Northern line passengers travelling to the city centre should use Moorfields as trains will not be stopping at Liverpool Central.

Andy Heath, Merseyrail’s managing director said: “To help us deliver a reliable service to commuters and visitors to the event, Merseyrail has made necessary timetable changes, including a limited stop service.

“Our trains will be very busy and staff will be available to support passengers, however we encourage everyone to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey.”

Key travel information for all days:

  • Thursday, October 4 normal timetables will apply but there will be no late night services.
  • Friday, October 5 commuters are advised to check for any changes to usual timetable and need to be prepared to make train and bus times.
  • Saturday, October 6 Mersey Ferries River Cruise Explorer services will be suspended to allow for two shuttle services to run every 20 minutes - one between Woodside and the Pier Head then on between Seacombe and Pier Head.
  • Sunday, October 7 fans travelling to and from Anfield for the Liverpool Football Club vs Manchester City game are advised to allow extra travelling time. Mersey Ferries River Cruise Explorer services will be suspended to allow for two shuttle services to run every 20 minutes - one between Woodside and the Pier Head then on between Seacombe and Pier Head.

Queen Square and Liverpool One bus stations will be closed for some periods during the event, there will be alternative drop off and pick up points notified in advance.

The Wallasey tunnel will be open as usual, there are planned closures at the Birkenhead tunnel which will see the closure of the Liverpool Dock branch exit.

The route of the Giants in Liverpool sees them very close to the Tunnel entrance/exit in Liverpool on Saturday, October 6 – which could lead to temporary closures for crowd safety reasons during the day.
